Letter

Dear Editor,
I feel that President Carter's program to conserve energy is a great idea. The fact that he is not demanding the people to use less fuel , but instead, asking them to is a great idea and will get a morew positive response. The truth is we desperately need to conserve energy and find an alternative source so that we can help save the environment and conserve resources. I also think putting taxes on uneco-friendly purchases will help the public stray away. I do however have my fears to this program. I feel that the public might not take kindly to the president asking them to give up something. I feel that Americans are greedy and do not like to be told what to do and in that sense will rebel. This still does not sway my thought, however, that this program is a good idea.

Protest Song

Mosh lyrics By:Eminem

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible...
It feels so good to be back..

I scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel and re-energize and rewind
I give sight to the blind, my insight through the mind
I exercise my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight, you take it as I'mma whip someone's a**
If you don't understand, don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi-task
And in juggling both perhaps mastered his craft
Slash entrepreneur who has held onto few more rap acts
Who's had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mr. kisses a** crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

[Chorus:]
Come along follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength
Come with me and I won't steer you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
To the light at the end of the tunnel
We gonna fight, we gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march
Through the swamp, we gonna mosh through the marsh
Take us right through the doors (c'mon)

All the people up top on the side and the middle
Come together lets all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause don't matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us they can't, we stronger now more than ever
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise h*** we gonna let em know
Stomp, push, shove, mush, F*** Bush, until they bring our troops home (c'mon)

[Chorus]

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's tryina tell us something,
Maybe this is god just sayin' we're responsible
For this monster, this coward,
That we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin'
How could we allow something like this without pumping our fists
Now this is our final hour
Let me be the voice in your strength and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply by six...
Teen million people, Are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech
Let the president answer a higher anarchy
Strap him with an Ak-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight.

[Chorus]

And as we proceed,
To Mosh through this desert storm,
In these closing statements, if they should argue
Let us beg to differ
As we set aside our differences
And assemble our own army
To disarm this Weapon of Mass Destruction
That we call our President, for the present
And Mosh for the future of our next generation
To speak and be heard
Mr. President, Mr. Senator
Do you guy's hear us...hear us...[laughing] (Hailie)

This song is a more recent protest song, made in 2004 by Eminem. This song is directly protesting how former president Bush was running the country. It was saying how he fooled us into going to war saying that there were weapons of mass destruction and so that we could catch Bin Laden, the leader of the terrorist group that attacked the twin towers but how we still have not caught him and he is out therepretty much laughing at us. It is also criticizing Bush saying that he really went to war to impress his father, another former president who was almost assassinated by Sadam Husaen. Eminem is saying how the only way to change this is to come together as a country and "mosh" or let our grievances against the president be known.

Are Women Equal

In 2010 even though I would like to hope men and women are equal, they are not. There are many places in society today where the equality does not exist. For example, the workplace. Women who hold the same jobs as men do not make nearly as much money as the men do. Also if it comes down to a man and women in a job interview most of the time the man will get it. I do feel that the ERA should be passed because that way there will be a requirement that men and women have equal opportunities and that women can recieve equal benefits to men. This way in every aspect of life men and women can be equal.

JFK Field Trip Reflection

1. One thing that I learned about JFK on the field trip was that he originally didn't want to be in politics but he wanted to be a teacher. Another thing I learned was that he wrote a couple of books before becoming president of the United States. A third thing I learned was that at first he was kind of neutral in the whole Civil Rights area during the early years of his presidency.

2. I felt that the movies, especially the Cuban Missile Crisis one, were very interesting. I also thought that the museum was pretty cool like all of the items that they recieved from the random leaders of random countries.

3. I think that in the future more time should be allotted for the students to roam around on their own in the museum because it was kind of rushed and you couldn't absorb all of the material that was in there. I also think time should be alloted to go and see the library itself. I was hoping to learn a lot more about the assassination of President Kennedy and all of the conspiracy theories and was a little disappointed when I didn't.

4. I personally feel like JFK fufilled the posiion of president the best that anyone had done in at least 20 years. He spent a lot of time trying to make the United States a better place to live in. When he saw the attrocities that were being committed to Civil Rights activists he stepped up and took action to help them. When the United States was confronted with the possibility of nuclear war during the Cuban Missle Crisis, he worked to make sure that the country, as well as the world, did not crumble under the power of the nuckes. Everything he did while in office had a purpose and that purpose was always the betterment of life in America and around the world. He worked hard for the people every minute of every day until he was assassinated. When he was assassinated the entire U.S., democrats and republicans alike, were astounded and lost a little bit of sense of security if a man as great as he was could be killed in cold blood. So do I believe that JFK, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, deserves to be among the top presidents of all time, yes I do.

The Butter Battle

Wait said my grandfather, if we let these Boomeroos fly, those in our lands will all surely die
I agree said Vanitch, We should all live in peace and not quarrel again about the way that we feast
We should blow up this wall, my grandfather said, and and live together with our butter and bread
So grandpa went to Chief Yookeroo and told him our plan, he smiled and agreed, Why yes we can
So from then on out the Yooks and the Zooks lived in one great big town, and never worried again about the butter side up or the butter side down.

2009 Depression

I do not believe that in this day and age, the U.S. could go through another "Great Depression." With all of the organizations that have been put in plce since then there will always be ways for people to get the essentials and survive. Also now that it has happened, people are more wise about how they spend and invest their money and realize that if the economy goes down for a while it has to go back up eventually because of the buisness cycle. Finally the essential, clothes and food, are a lot cheaper today than they were back then.
If there was a depression my family would have to cut down on the amount of electricity we use because I play a good deal of video games in my room while my mom is downstairs watching T.V. or on the computer(sometimes) and my dad is in the basement watching T.V. So we could cut down by watching T.V. as a family. We would also cut down on the number of material goods we buy (movies, video games, etc.)Also we wouldn't keep the heat as high and during the summer we wouldn't use the A.C. as much. If both my parents lost their jobs we would do exactly what i said above because it has already happened. 2 summers ago my dad lost his and last winter my mom lost hers, but now they both have jobs and we are all set.
He said it would look a lot different than the 1930s one because the price of necessities has gone down and T.V. is cheaper as well as people would keep it to themselves. I do agree because the times have changed tremendously since then so people would handle it differently.

Simpsons and the 18th amendment

1) I do believe that the producers of the Simpsons did a good job in portraying the 1920s prohibition event. I feel that the truths did outway the comedy because the truths were the important truths like speakeasies andmobsters bootlegging and the comedy was non-important things like the transforming bar and the burried alcohol. I did quite enjoy the episode, especially when the mobster said he could have a flow of alcohol into Springfield in 4 minutes. The increase in drinking durring the 1920's as well as the happiness often seen at speakeasies while people were drinking was portrayed well.

2) To enhance the reality of this episode I feel like they should add some of the pop culture changes during the 1920s. The producers could have added a scene where they were at Moe's and the music of the 1920s turned on and everybody got up and started dancing around doing the quickstep and the Charleston. Or they could have added a scene where the family went to the movies and the movie theater was having a silent movie night and they saw a silent movie.
